Floral

Pronunciation: FLOR-ul

Short definition

Aromas in wine that recall flowers such as rose, violet, jasmine, or elderflower.

Gewürztraminer smells like rose petals. Viognier recalls honeysuckle. Nebbiolo gives off violets and dried roses. Floral aromas are most obvious in aromatic grapes and tend to be strongest in cooler climates. They are primary aromas — coming from the grape itself — and often fade as wine ages, replaced by more developed bouquet notes.
